胡恩威批本地大學教育快餐化

經濟機遇委員會成員胡恩威批評香港本地大學快餐化,如「麥當奴」般大開分校,大量開辦迎合潮流的學科賺錢,淪為「商業大學」,以致社會上出現許多「不需要的精英」。
「現在的大學是快餐式的,套餐式。」胡恩威認為本地大學商業化,妄顧教育質素。他指出城市大學每年花千萬公帑賣廣告宣傳,又不停增設分校,猶如「麥當奴」。
同時,他批評現時教育制度下,學生雖入讀公立大學,仍須付上四萬元學費,但課程又欠缺特色,特別是金融碩士等課程,是「福臨明門的價錢,麥當奴的享受」。
他又以中大曾試圖撤辦哲學系,改辦商業系為例,指出現時各大學爭相開辦工專式商科課程,造成人才過盛、錯配等問題,製造大量「不需要的精英」。他又認為這些工
另外,他又指出現時各大學的畢業人數要達到一定數目,否則會被削減資源,因此學校會以各手段盡量令一些本來不合資格的學生亦能畢業。
他認為讓這些學生畢業是害了社會,建議政府應仿傚歐洲金字塔式的大學營運方法,例如一年級收生80個,但能畢業的只有8個,確保畢業有一定的學術水平。

Cultural commentator Mathias Woo criticized the universities in Hong Kong setting up a lot of sub-schools, establishing trendy programmes, providing fast-food like courses for only gaining money.
“It is just like McDonald,” said Woo.
Woo stated universities pursuing the commercial managing is irresponsible. “Without enriching their knowledge , inspiring their mind , they just provide what the students like, but not what the students need,” said Woo.
He pointed out City University spending $100,000 a year for advertising, “some university had decided to turn down philosophy department in order to provide more economics and finance degree courses,” said Woo.
Woo worried if the universities continue setting up the courses according to the popularity, there will be excess professional.
“lots of ‘useless elite’are produced as a result,”said Woo.
Under the education policy, each university has to reach the low limit of the number of graduates in order to escape from reducing the resources by the government. Woo criticized universities hence trend to let the“under the mark”students graduate.
“ Some students hence do not care about their school as they believe they can get the degree anyway,”said Woo.
Woo suggested Hong Kong should take the Europe universities ideas. There is no guarantee you can graduate even you are admitted to study in Europe. Sometime, only eight out of 80 can be graduated. “At this state, the graduate must reach to a satisfaction academic standards,”said Woo.
